Biography
Jaakko Tapala was born in Helsinki in 1966. He graduated in law (oikeustieteen kandidaatti) in 1992 and earned the Finnish title varatuomari by completing the district court traineeship. He passed the Finnish bar examination (asianajotutkinto) in 2018; he is not a member of the Finnish Bar Association.
He spent around twenty years at the Helsinki prosecution office and worked at Asianajotoimisto Justitum from 2016 to 2018. Since 2018 he has run his own firm, Varatuomari Tapala Oy, with offices in Helsinki and Ivalo. He has completed the theoretical part of postgraduate studies at the Universities of Lapland and Helsinki.
He has strong expertise across criminal matters, excluding intellectual property. Employment law is another core area: in particular conflicts within the workplace, misuse of the employer’s right to direct work, and advising employers on dismissals and lay-offs without unnecessary risk. For workplace mediation he works with qualified mediators. In family law his work focuses mainly on divorces.
He also takes on other civil and administrative matters where he believes he can deliver the best possible result for the client, and he does not send substitutes to hearings.
