Finland Deportation Decision 2026 — Appeal and Enforcement
Explains post-12 June 2026 deportation enforcement, the 30-day appeal period, right to work and prohibition-of-enforcement requests.
Short answer
From 12 June 2026, appealing a deportation decision based on grounds other than crime no longer automatically prevents enforcement in every case. Migri states that the decision may become enforceable after the appeal period expires, generally 30 days after service. A request to the Administrative Court for prohibition of enforcement can therefore be critical. Where an extended permit is refused or a valid permit withdrawn, the right to work may end when the deportation decision becomes enforceable; if enforcement is prohibited, work can continue until the court decides the appeal.
1. Critical 30-day timeline
Checklist
- Record service date
- Calculate appeal deadline
- Calculate enforceability separately
- Assess need for prohibition of enforcement
- Check right-to-work end date
2. When does the residence permit expire?
The 2026 reform clarified permit-expiry timing: a residence permit may expire immediately when Migri issues a deportation decision. This makes the separate stay/work/enforcement analysis especially important.
3. What can be requested from the court?
Alongside the substantive appeal, the applicant can request prohibition of enforcement. The request should be reasoned and explain concrete consequences of removal and relevant family/private-life, health or other circumstances.
Common questions about this topic
I appealed; can removal still be enforced?
For some deportation decisions after 12 June 2026, an appeal does not automatically suspend enforcement. Check enforceability and whether the court has prohibited enforcement.
