Finland Machine or System Delivery Work Permit 2026 — Maximum 6 Months

1. Scope

The assignment must be directly connected to the supply of the machine/system. General construction, maintenance or ordinary production work does not automatically fit this route.

2. Six-month maximum

Work under this application may last no more than six months. If the project will last longer, compare TTOL and other suitable work permits from the outset.

3. Documents, income and fee

The main income must come from the work on which the application is based. Paid employment must meet the applicable collective agreement; if none applies or the work is part-time, at least EUR 1,463/month is required in 2026. The same EUR 1,463 benchmark applies to trade/business or a combination of employment and trade/business. Taxable fringe benefits may be considered.

2026 processing fee: first permit EUR 530 online / EUR 630 on paper; extended permit EUR 230 online / EUR 430 on paper. A first residence permit is normally filed outside Finland. Recheck fees with Migri on the filing date.

4. The line between delivery, installation and maintenance

This route covers work tied to the delivery of a machine or system sold to Finland: installation, commissioning, testing and user training. Such work is within scope as long as it forms part of the sales contract and attaches to a specific delivery. Providing ongoing maintenance, working within the customer's own staff, or offering general technical services to various customers falls outside it.

What makes the distinction concrete is the contract. The sales or delivery contract should state the scope of the work, its duration and that it forms part of the delivery. An intervention under warranty usually stays within the same logic, while a regular service agreement after the warranty is assessed separately. The longer it runs and the further the work drifts from the delivery, the more the right answer is to move to a work-based permit.

5. Posted-worker rules and the duty to notify

Holding the residence permit does not settle every obligation: the permit covers the right to stay and to do this work, not the duties that employment and tax law attach to it. An employee sent to Finland by a company abroad may fall within the posted-workers rules. Minimum working conditions applied in Finland then govern, and safety rules apply as they operate here. The sending company may have to notify the competent authority before the work begins and to name a representative in Finland.

On a site or in a factory further conditions arrive: a personal tax number, a sector-specific identity card and occupational health documents are often required. These belong to employment and tax law rather than immigration law — but missing them stops the work just the same. So even when planning a short delivery job, the immigration, employment-law and tax sides should all three be checked together.
